Are there places to get just a snack?

Cafes are the best places to get a midmorning snack or pastry, or a quick sandwich for lunch. Some cafes are better than others, of course. Look over their offerings. Monte San Savino has some nice cafes serving both breakfast pastries and lovely small lunch sandwiches.
Just before you get to the main gate into Lucignano (heading from the house), you will pass a wine tasting place on the right side of the road: Vini di Toscana, at the corner of Via A. Toti. It also sells local products (olive oil, honeys, jars of sauce and condiments, etc), as well as inexpensive local wines (some good white wine for Euro 1,80 – about $2.50! – and really good reds). It is a nice place to stop for a simple lunch of meat, cheese, and wine tasting. You can also book a day-tour of the Montalcino wine area through them.
