Is it difficult to drive there?

That depends on your stress tolerance and where you are going. You can take relaxing country roads – and then get stuck behind a tractor. You can take a wrong turn, but usually will find that the road connects back to where you want to go. Driving into Florence or looking for a place to park in Siena or Arezzo for the first time can be a bit intimidating.
Our first guests/clients rented a GPS system for their car and say it was "absolutely super helpful." Other guests who found the autostrada drivers a bit "crazy" took small roads locally, and took the train from Arezzo to both Florence and Rome for day trips.
