Monte San Savino

Monte San Savino (birthplace of the Renaissance sculptor Andrea Sansovino) is a bit “younger” than Lucignano, in that most of its historic buildings date from the Renaissance rather than the 14th century. Monte San Savino is also famous for its butcher shops – all selling the finest beef, pork, chicken, and other meats. It is home to the September porchetta festival, with two weekends devoted to locals and tourists eating the absolutely best roast pork ever.

The town also has a lively weekly market, an award winning artisan gelato maker, a shop for delicious fresh pasta, restaurants, nice cafes, and beautiful views. Both Lucignano and Monte San Savino are car free inside the walls, and so are pleasant places for a stroll.
